Time Tracking and its Effect on Home Improvement Workers

homeimprovement

In the last couple of years, the construction industry around the globe has experienced new economic challenges, related to the crisis in most national economies and the collapse of significant property bubbles, including USA, Ireland, Spain, Eastern Europe, China and many others.

Home improvement business, on the other hand, has managed to remain relatively stable. Instead of buying new properties, the majority of American homeowners prefer to refresh what’s already there.

But how has home remodeling managed to remain in high demand?

First of all, home refreshments and little improvements here and there can deliver a brand new look for a house, by being cost efficient at the same time. In addition, home improvement business owners have utilized several management techniques, allowing their business to remain flexible and attractive in the current economic stagnation.

One of these methods is the use of automated time tracking solutions.

According to Construction Excellence (2010), the use of digital time tracking solutions to monitor employee time and attendance can deliver up to 35% saving on time and over 65% increase on productivity. The result is reduced overall cost, increase in employee trust and significant improvement of employee productivity. In addition to these benefits, the contemporary time tracking solutions can also have a positive impact on the environment, as well as less waste of time and resources.

With mTimeCard, managers and supervisors can easily monitor their employees, whatever place need to work at. All they need is to have their mobile phone with them. They can schedule shifts, monitor employee work hours and pay them for the actual hours worked. Even more, payroll hassle gets reduced to a minimum, if not eliminated at all.

But what makes mTimeCard so advantageous for home improvement businesses?

It’s simple: mTimeCard is a win win situation for you and your employees. On one side, with mTimeCard you can be sure you pay your home improvement workers for the time they actually work. On the other hand, you can prove to your employees their time will be paid and there won’t be even a single lost minute- no more confusion, unkept promises and distrust.

At mTimeCard, we know increasing the levels of trust between you and your home improvement workers is crucial for maintaining a stable and reliable workforce. That is why we have created mTimeCard so you can easily track employee hours and attendance and say goodbye to unfair games.

Besides from accurate time entries, correct pay and increased levels of trust and reliability, you will also enjoy better productivity and motivation across your home remodeling teams.

One of our customers, Joe Logan, has shared his incredible success story on how mTimeCard helped him to improve his home remodeling business: “I was looking for a SIMPLE time and location tracking tool to manage mobile employees. I was so relieved to finally find mTimeCard. Being in the construction industry, the tool has to be very simple or it won’t be adopted by anyone. Thanks mTimeCard for knowing and fullfilling what small biz needs.”

Four Easy Tips for Personal Time Management

ptm

Okay, we said a lot about managing employee time and attendance. Tracking employee hours, plan shifts in advance, provide incentives and try to increase their productivity. But what about your own productivity and time management?
The article will now explore four easy ways to improve your personal time and effectiveness.

1. Set Clear Deadlines for Your Tasks

While it may seem a good idea not to set due dates for all of your tasks, there is a high risk of putting some work off right away, then put it off some more….and then you may never finish it.
Certainly, a deadline doesn’t guarantee you will finish a project or task on time, but at least it gives you a sense of organization and something to shoot for.
Another great idea is to set milestones for yourself, representing a certain level of the task which should be completed for a given amount of time.
In the best scenario, you can combine deadlines and milestones and assign both to everything, even subtasks and minor items, so you won’t dawdle.

2. Refuse to multitask
If you do not set clear boundaries between tasks, they will inevitably interfere with each other. Focusing on a single or just a few tasks will help you to be more concentrated and significantly more effective than trying to work on all projects simultaneously. In other words – less volume, more time. The trick here is to pick no more than 3 major tasks a day and relentlessly pursue those. This will not only increase you productivity, but at the end of the day it will also give you a feeling that you have completed something really significant, rather than “a few parts” from here and there.

3. Kill notifications
Modern technology has become so advanced that it chases all the time and exploits our urgency addiction: our email, Facebook, Twitter and Quora and many more are constantly distracting ourselves and taking our minds away from the important tasks. Fortunately, this can be easily fixed: turn off all notifications and concentrate fully on your current agenda. You can always check your email and social accounts when you have more time to be distracted-for examole, during the lunch break or at the end of the working day when you have completed your most important tasks for the day.

4. Learn how to ignore
Yes, it may be rude and unprofessional, but sometimes is also utterly necessary. There are probably people you just won’t find the time to reply to. There are questions and requests you can allow yourself to forget. You can be slow to do things like tidy up, pay bills, do the shopping or open your mail. And still, the world fall apart. There is nothing wrong to ignore certain aspects of your everyday tasks. Again, the payoff is you get done what really matters.

6 Reasons Why Employee Time Tracking Matters

At a first glance, employee time tracking may seem like a waste of time. But every business owner knows the importance of tracking employee time and attendance.

Here are the top 6 reasons why employee time tracking really matters:

1. Albert Einstein had only 24 hours, so do you and your employees

As a business owner, you best know how precious time is. So when you have a whole business to run, you cannot whip out extra time in the last minute and you have no time to worry about employee time and attendance.

So plan your employee shifts, make a task list and strictly stick to it.

2. We all procrastinate – no exception

“Procrastination is the art of keeping up with yesterday”, Don Marquis once said and most of us would probably agree. Employees often procrastinate filling up those timesheets and when the time comes they rush to do a shoddy work of essaying the work they did.

The solution?
Use mTimeCard to save your time and the time of your employees – no more paper timesheets burdens delays – our app will all do it for you.

3. “I do not remember” excuse

Do your employees often say they don’t remember the exact time of their shifts and often fail to arrive on time and meet customer expectations? As a business owner, chances are you have multiple projects a day and your employees work for different customers. So instead of taking notes and writing it all done, why don’t get mTimeCard and do it quickly and easlity online? Your employee would love it too!

4. Busy bees are usually busy all time

When your employees have tons of work, they often say to themselves: “I will fill it when I’m not so busy”. But somehow this never works.

How to solve this? It will take less than a minute for your employees to clock in and clock out from your mobile handset. Let our app do the tracking, so your employees can focus on their actual job!

5. Increased sense of accomplishment

Tracking employee time and attendance will inevitably lead to increased sense of accomplishment and stimulus. At the end of a hard working day, there is nothing better than the happy fuzzy feeling that comes when a task is complete. It will let your employees when they are almost close to the finishing line and will give them the additional motivation they need to get the job done.

Quick tip: track employee time and work shifts regularly.

6. It’s a Friday job

It’s the end of the day and the end of the working week. And you can probably think of thousands of more interesting things to do than filling up timesheets. So do your employees!

So instead of wasting your employee time time, why don’t you try mTimeCard to automate the whole time tracking process? Time and attendance reports will be generated only and easily accessible for review. Not to mention your payroll burdens will be reduced to a minimum!
